Genevieve Belgard Having trained in Theatre Design, I have always loved responding to the story. What imagery has a resonance to a particular story, piece of history or place in time? And what is the significance to us now?

Developing my passion for responding to the historical, my work has become more thematic. The array of local Medieval Manuscripts in the Cathedral Libraries of Hereford, Worcester and Gloucester has led to a range of printed work responding to creatures of the Mappa Mundi.

My work covers a range of media; illustrative collages using pen and ‘cloud – gazed’ inked sheets, dry-point etching and collagraph printing, boxed art work using collaged work and found objects. Much of my work I then go over with paint or pen details. These threads of history I present are sometimes intertwined with the lyrical. A word or phrase that emphasises the image’s alternate view or reflection on life.
The now merely mirrors what’s gone before us in so many ways . . .
